FFF Support

FFF turns a drive, a ride or a run into territory. Hit GO, move, and every hexagon of about 0.1 square kilometres your route touches becomes yours on a shared map. Cross ground someone else holds and you take it from them. They find out. They come back for it. Hexes you never revisit rot into grey ruins owned by The Rust, and anyone can reclaim those.

Recording, claiming, stealing, being stolen from and your local leaderboard are free and always will be.

If you are asking about your data or a deletion, include the device id from Settings, under About. It is the only way to find your account, because FFF holds no email address.

Why does FFF drain my battery?

While an activity is running, FFF asks iOS for the most accurate GPS it can give, several times a minute. That is the only way to catch every hex you pass through instead of guessing. Expect a real dent on a long drive. Between activities FFF uses no location at all, so nothing is running in the background. On a long session, a car mount and a cable is the honest answer. If your battery drops while nothing is recording, force quit the app and email us, because that is a bug.

My route looks jagged, or the distance seems off

GPS is a guess, and a good one only when the sky is clear. Tall buildings, tunnels, underground car parks and multi storey ramps bounce the signal and make the line zigzag. A phone flat in a pocket against your body gets a worse fix than one on a mount or an arm strap. Give it 10 to 20 seconds after you tap GO before you move so the first fix settles. Long tunnels will leave a straight line across the gap. Speed is a passive read straight from the GPS chip, never a target, and it never affects your score.

I drove down a street but the hexes did not turn my colour

Usually one of four things. The fix had not settled yet, so the first few hundred metres were dropped. You passed through a corner of a hex without the recorder catching a point inside it. Location permission is set to "While Using" but the app went to the background, so check Settings on your phone. Or you were offline at the finish, in which case the activity is safe on your phone and gets sent up next time you have signal. Open the map once with a connection and the hexes appear.

My hexes turned grey. What is The Rust?

Territory does not keep itself. A hex you claim lives 7 days. Pass through your own hex again and it is reinforced for another 3 days, up to 3 reinforcements, so a well travelled hex can hold for 16 days. After that it rots and The Rust takes it, which is why it goes grey. The Rust is not a player, it is decay, and it does not chase you. A grey ruin is free ground for anyone, including you. Driving back through one counts as a fresh claim, not a steal. You get a warning notification the night before hexes crumble so you have time to go and hold your line.

How do I delete my account?

Open Settings and tap "Delete my account and data", then confirm. Everything goes: your handle, display name, garage, activities, GPS points, hexes, push token and device id, on the server and on your phone. Your territory is released as grey ruins for the next player. There is no login, so nothing can be restored afterwards. Deleting the app on its own does not clear the server, so use the button first. If the app will not open, email fff.turf.app@gmail.com with your device id and it will be done within 30 days.
